There’s no doubt that there comes a time when a computer has completely outlived its useful life. Unfortunately, there’s no magic rule-of-thumb that indicates when a computer has reached this point.

What Goes Into Determining Useful Life?

Its user primarily determines the useful life of a computer. Although it sounds a bit simplistic, what you can do with the computer is a better marker of the computer’s lifespan than the number of days it’s been in service. If the computer doesn’t meet your needs, it can be “obsolete” right out of the box. On the other hand, if you can still do whatever you need, a seven-year-old computer can still be “useful.”

One indication people focus on is the speed of the computer. An old computer is a slow computer, right? Not really. Old computers can be very responsive and brand new computers can be so bogged down that they can’t get out of their own way. “Slow” and “age” don’t always coincide. While it’s true that older computers have older processors, and older computers have less memory, they also have built-in memory management that’s designed to work with smaller amounts of RAM. If the programs you use haven’t changed remarkably, or your needs for computing have stayed the same, you can still get a lot of use out of the computer.

One key to avoiding a slow computer is a clean registry. The Windows registry has changed significantly over time, but one thing has remained the same. Useless, old and abandoned information stored in the registry can cause computer problems, and it can certainly make for one slow computer.

Today, you need more than just a simple registry cleaner. That’s why I use SpeedUpMyPC 2011. This program is a whole toolkit of utilities that will help keep your computer running right and avoid annoying “slow computer” problems. Best of all, it can scan your computer for serious problems that need your attention in just two minutes.

Two minutes of maintenance time can save you hours of frustrating computer use by ensuring that your computer performs as it should day in and day out. Don’t put up with a slow computer (no matter how new or old it is). Instead use SpeedUpMyPC 2011 to make sure your computer works the way it was designed to each time you turn it on.

If you don’t know much about computers, you might be wondering what steps you can take to speed up your computer performance.

No Silver Bullets

Unless you know exactly what’s slowing down your computer, you aren’t likely to find the one magic thing you can do to resolve your performance issues. Instead, you’re likely to find a handful of things you can do. By themselves, these individual steps may not make much of a performance difference for your computer, but combine them and your computer may start singing again.

Regular maintenance on your computer is as important as regular maintenance on your car. If you keep your computer well maintained you put yourself ahead of the game in two ways. First, you avoid accumulating problems that can slowly rob computer performance. Second, you can more easily detect performance problems when they first occur, giving you a better opportunity to resolve them.

Regular maintenance consists of getting rid of extraneous files; cleaning up your disk and defragmenting it: maintaining your file system; and monitoring your startup application list carefully. By not allowing your system to load unnecessary applications, utilities and toolbars, you can conserve your available memory for the applications you really want or need to run.

You can get a performance boost by increasing the amount of memory you have installed in your computer. By making available a larger amount of RAM, the applications you normally use will have more memory available to them. You’ll get a noticeable performance boost by adding memory.

Finally, you can improve your performance using a good registry cleaner. SpeedUpMyPC 2011 is more than a registry cleaner. It offers a full set of tools to help you optimize the performance of your computer. Using the tools in SpeedUpMyPC 2011, you can track the performance of your computer and eliminate the programs, utilities and configurations that slow your computer down and rob it of its ability to perform.

SpeedUpMyPC 2011 is easy to use and requires no special skills. The interface is straightforward, the scanning is both thorough and fast, and installation is a breeze. In just a few minutes, you can install SpeedUpMyPC 2011, scan your computer and fix issues that prevent your computer from performing at its peak.

Download your copy today and get your computer back up and running at full speed.

According to the poll, which was conducted online and involved 2,000 respondents, nearly half of all respondents thought that restarting the computer or running anti-virus software would fix a slow computer.

Many Things Can Cause A Slow Computer

For the half of respondents who thought that a reboot or A/V software would fix the problem – they’re right only if the slow computer problem was a runaway process or a virus. Both of these things can cause slow computer performance, but they’re not the leading causes of chronic slow performance.

Chronically slow computers can be caused by a number of conditions. The number one cause of a slow computer is the lack of available RAM in a computer. If you purchased your computer with the minimum complement of RAM and you want to run the latest operating system and applications, you’re probably going to be disappointed with your computer performance. So, if you want to speed up your computer, just install more RAM, right?

Just like runaway processes and viral infections, a lack of RAM can slow computer performance. Adding RAM will speed up your slow computer if you don’t have enough RAM installed for what you’re doing. If your computer has enough RAM installed, adding more won’t help much.

The key to solving slow computer problems isn’t doing one or two or even three things. It’s knowing what’s causing the performance problem in the first place. One known performance killer is excessive, unnecessary registry entries. Computers that have been in service for awhile tend to accumulate a lot of unnecessary code in their registry files. The computer has to read through all of the registry information, whether it’s relevant or not. Keeping your computer registry files free of this unwanted and unnecessary information will help keep your computer running smoothly.

Using RegCure is a great way to ensure that your computer registry gets clean and stays clean, eliminating performance problems that may crop up over time. RegCure has been downloaded millions of times by users all over the world who can attest to its ability to keep their computers running smoothly. Download RegCure today and see what a difference it can make when it comes to resolving slow computer performance.

If you perform these maintenance tasks regularly, you’ll keep your computer in good working order. You’ll also avoid some common pitfalls that accumulate over time and rob your computer (and you!) of good performance.

When Maintenance Isn’t Enough

Nothing can take the place of regular maintenance. If you perform these basic tasks on your computer regularly, you’ll get good, reliable performance. If you regularly maintain your computer, and you’ve maximized your RAM, your hard disk is not approaching 75% of its capacity and you’re still experiencing slow computer performance, your next best bet is to use a registry cleaner to address problems that routine maintenance won’t touch.

On a PC, programs are supposed to have an uninstaller that works. The uninstaller is supposed to remove all traces of the program when you use it. Sometimes, uninstallers work well and other times, they leave behind useless information and instructions written into the registry. Your computer has to read and interpret this information each time it boots, and often while you’re using the computer, whether the offending program is still installed or not.

Over time, this abandoned code accumulates in the registry, increasing the likelihood that something will go wrong. For example, information in the registry may cause a computer to wait for a response from a long-removed program. Since the program isn’t capable of responding, the computer must “time-out” on the request. In other words, it sits there patiently waiting for a response that will never come.

Keeping your registry clean and free from this kind of “debris” can really improve the performance of your computer. Registry errors can indeed rob your computer of the performance it had when it was new. Using a registry cleaner like RegistryBooster can help identify troublesome code left behind in the computer registry. Removing this unnecessary registry data can improve the performance of your computer significantly and help you get more out of your computer system.

In addition, RegistryBooster can detect and repair or remove registry errors that may cause your operating system to become unstable and crash. When you run Registry Booster, you’ll get a complete diagnostic report that shows you exactly where potential problems exist in your registry.
To speed up a slow computer, try RegistryBooster. You’ve got nothing to lose but slow computer performance.

The registry is unlikely to go away anytime soon, but it’s conceivable that a complete redesign of Windows may opt to use a different approach to storing and retrieving the information in the registry.

What Is The Registry?

The registry isn’t actually a file, although it started out that way (actually as four files) in its early days. It’s a database of files and information that the computer uses to interact with virtually every application, device and component of the operating system. The registry stores configuration information, application information, device information and much more. The registry can span literally millions of lines of computer code and isn’t readily readable by man or beast.

The big benefit of the registry is that it provides a central place for programs and devices to store required information. Centralizing this information means that it can be managed and optimized, something that wasn’t possible with the herd of .ini files that the registry has replaced.

It is possible to change the registry but a little snip here and a tuck there isn’t recommended. Often, when changes to the code are required, the old code is simply “commented out” or abandoned and replacement code is added. When applications are added to the computer, the registry often gets some new entries. When programs are removed, the removal is supposed to eliminate the unnecessary code, but that doesn’t always (often?) happen.

Microsoft provides tools with which to edit the registry, but that’s not a step to be taken lightly, since changes to the registry are immediate and there’s nothing to prevent a bad change from being accepted into the registry.

Then how do you get rid of the lines of useless code in your registry that build up? I always recommend that users include a trusted registry cleaner like RegCure in their maintenance plans. RegCure has been around for a long time and is one of the best registry cleaners on the market today. I like RegCure because it backs up the registry completely before it makes a single change. If you don’t like the results of the cleaning operation, you can revert to the old registry at the touch of a button.
I recommend and use RegCure regularly. When I Introduce a new user to the product, they’re often surprised by how much faster their computer works after their registry has been cleaned.

Try it! You’ll like it!
